På Helgøy stammer de eldste spor av bosetning fra ca. 4000 år f.kr., altså har det bodd folk fra Steinalderen – gjennom Jernalderen – Gårdshauger fra ca 1200-tallet og de yngste rundt 1600-tallet. Selve hjertet på Helgøy er Fila, det nyrenoverte herredstyrehuset i gamle Helgøy kommune. Det er 10 senger fordelt på 4 rom i Hovedhuset og 8 senger i nabohuset. Vi tilrettelegger for kurs og konferanse, samt for ferie- og fritidsreisende. Det er WIFI, prosjektør og lerret tilgjengelig. I tillegg kan man slappe av i massasjebad til 8 stk, få informasjon om gamle Helgøy kirke og tidligere bosetninger på øya. Båt til leie for fisketurer og vandringsruter.
Fila ble ferdigbygd i år 1900 av partiet Venstre som aktivitetshus, hvor det også var mulighet å bo i. Fila ble kjøpt av Helgøy kommune i 1936 og var Herredshus (kommuneadministrasjon) fram til sammenslåingen i 1964. Fila er nyrenovert med høy standard på dobbelrommene, stue/møterom og en nydelig vinterhage/glassveranda. Der kan vi slappe av med en deilig varme fra klebersteinsovnen og nyte en flott havutsikt. Et sted for å finne ro.
Veibeskrivelse: fra Tromsø til Vatnan i Dåfjord : 1 time med bil – derfra ca 20 min med båt til Helgøy. Altså vil vi kun bruke ca 1 time og 30 minutter i total reisetid. Båttransport ordnes.
The heart of the Helgøy island is «Fila», the newly renovated old municipal building, built in the year 1900. The mansion consists of 10 beds divided by 4 bedrooms in the main building and 8 beds in the neighbouring house. Fully-equipped kitchen, dining area, two livingrooms and outdoor Jacuzzi. The mansion is large enough to hold business meetings, where one can use the existing projector and canvas, as well as wi-fi. This old historical home contains many items from its history, which one can learn more about the significance of Helgøy island throughout the years.
The island of Helgøy has a long history from being the site for the central administration of the municipality, till today where only a few holiday homes are left, with no permanent residents. But the history goes way back till 4000 years BC, where evidence of settlements through the Stone ages, through the iron age, around the middle ages and till today. The island is only accessible by boat, so transportation will be arranged from Ringvassøy island with a 20 min boat ride out to the island. At the island a boat can be rented for use for fishing.
